A guide on how to exercise your rights under PAIA is available from the Information Regulator. We will refer you to this guide on request and provide it free of charge in electronic format.

7. How to request access

A request must be made on Form 02 of the Promotion of Access to Information Regulations and submitted to the Information Officer at the contact details above. The form is available from the Information Regulator's website.

Your request must include:

  • Sufficient particulars to enable us to identify the record and you as the requester
  • The form of access you require
  • An address in the Republic to which we can send our response
  • If the request is on behalf of another person, proof of authority

8. Fees

Fees are charged in accordance with the prescribed PAIA fee schedule (Regulation 7). A request fee of R50 may be payable, plus an access fee based on the time taken to retrieve and reproduce the record. We will notify you of any fees before processing.

9. Grounds for refusal

We may refuse access where the record falls within the mandatory or discretionary grounds for refusal in Chapter 4 of PAIA — for example, unreasonable disclosure of another person's personal information, or information protected by legal privilege.

10. Remedies

If your request is refused, or you are dissatisfied with the response, you may submit a complaint to the Information Regulator or apply to a court for relief in terms of section 78 of PAIA.
