Issue 01  ·  The Stellar story

We named the company Stellarbecause lending should aima little higher.

A short history of why we built a lender we'd actually want our own family to use — written plainly, no marketing voice.

A vintage ink engraving of a crescent moon with a gold shooting star arcing across a scattering of stars.

South Africa's short-term lending industry has, for too long, been built on the assumption that customers won't read the fine print. Fees buried six screens deep. Settlement quotes that arrive a day after they're requested. Friendly chat agents who turn cold the moment a payment slips. We started Stellar because we believed the entire choreography could be different — that a lender could move quickly and still treat the person on the other end of the line like a person. Nothing about that idea is technically difficult. It just requires choosing it, every day.

The manifesto

We believe transparency is the price of entry, not a feature to brag about.

We believe speed without affordability checks isn't kindness — it's harm dressed up as convenience.

We believe how we talk to you matters as much as what we lend you.

— and so we keep looking up.

Stellar, decoded

stel·lar · adjective

  1. 1.Of, or relating to, the stars.
  2. 2.Reaching for something further than the obvious.
  3. 3.Setting a higher standard, on purpose.

The name was a brief to ourselves before it was a brand. Every workflow, every fee disclosure, every reply is written with one question in mind: would we be proud if our own family applied?

Yours, in better lending —
